OSINT, short for Open Source Intelligence, means gathering and analyzing publicly available information about a person or organization: websites, directories, social profiles and public registers, for example. It does not require breaking into an account. Knowing where to look and how to connect information can already reveal a great deal.

A simple definition of OSINT
“Open source” here refers to an accessible information source, rather than open-source software. Access, collection and use still need to comply with applicable law and the circumstances of the source.

An analyst connects these sources. A commercial search service may automate part of the process, producing enough information to target someone, contact them or research their background. Stolen datasets raise additional legal and ethical issues even when copies can be found online; availability does not make their use lawful.

Data Knight combines information so you can see the sources that expose you, then helps you address records that can be removed. There is no guarantee that viral information or a legally required register entry will disappear. The practical opportunities often involve data brokers, commercial profiles, indexed pages and copied listings.
What risks does this create?
A detailed footprint can make it easier for a person or automated tool to:
- Contact you convincingly, through unsolicited marketing, phishing texts or a fake adviser.
- Profile you, for advertising or social engineering.
- Harm you, through doxxing, harassment or identity theft, by connecting your address, phone and employer.

An audit shows the traces detected across the sources we cover. This gives you a starting point for reviewing your own footprint and deciding which records matter most. It is not an exhaustive view of everything held about you online.
2. Address accessible sources

The service's boundaries
Data Knight focuses on your data, your rights and your requests. It is not a service for investigating other people, monitoring an acquaintance or collecting a dossier on someone else.
It also cannot promise total invisibility. Public posts you choose to keep, press coverage and records subject to legal publication requirements may remain accessible. If you face immediate threats or harassment, contact the appropriate emergency services or law enforcement; a data removal service does not replace them.
